Auto Update Your Copyright Footer

The end of 2010 is fast approaching. Christmas carols, outside, people all over the mall buying gifts and what not. But for people who own websites like blogs and personal portfolio website, it is that time again to update our copyright information. This may not be as hard as your think if you are maintaining your personal site or maybe only a handful of sites. But if you are a web developer who makes a living making sites and keeping them up-to date, this is not the most easy thing to do.

Logging from Panel to Panel and editing the footer file can be boring and worse, if you did not do PHP Include, that would only make things worse since obviously, you would need to change all of the page's footers manually.

Now comes PHP. If you have a paid webhosting, or even free ones, there's a good chance PHP is installed on the server. PHP is a programming language that parses the PHP file(your website files) along with Apache web server. In PHP, there's a function called date() which returns the server's date. You can use this and place it on your copyright notice on your page and just forget about it afterwards. It will automatically update itself as it uses the machine date on the server.
